Strange Noise

Post by SExyMatchGirl »

Hi,

Need some help, my 1.4 SE match polo (2001) is making a funny noise, only had it since April and this is the worst time for it to go as I have my driving test next week!!!

The noise sounds like its coming from the clutch, and towards the back right of the car if that makes any sense (though that could just be accoustics) and its like a creaking/groaning kind of noise especially when you go over bumps or let the clutch out.

Do you think its the clutch that has gone?

Any ideas much appreciated!

Maybe, but cant really diagnose something sitting from here lol best thing to do would be take it somewhere to be looked at or if a family or friend knows a bit about cars then maybe they can have a quick looky!

It could be your clutch or it could also be a wheel bearing

This is the same noise as mine, I have had new wheel bearings fitted about 2 months ago so discount that, I think it could be the clutch release bearing. The sound disappears when you press the clutch pedal.

Hmmm well for starters it sounds like a sticking drum at the back would be your strange noise. also my clutch creaks when i press the pedel, sounds like an old door being opened so maybe lubricate the clutch cable somehow? and as for the noise from the front this could be many of things. best get it checked by someone with a bit know how and they should be able to help more  let us know the outcome

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies!

I was drving today and found some more clues to as and when this noise happened. Seems the noise happens when the car is in gear and between 1 thousand and two thousand revs in any gear. The car doesn’t make this noise when clutch or brake is pressed or when in neutral. Any suggestions as what it could be? It sounds like its coming from the front off side.

sounds familiar........

had the same problem. no noise if the clutch is pressed in. light whining noise when driving, especially when at higher speeds/revs. coming from the front half of the car. noise gets louder when going faster 50mph+

betta start looking for a gearbox, unless you wanna get stranded in the middle of nowhere one day.
