s**t day ever

Post by randy »

Yesterday was the worst day up here. Miserable, wet and a day that things just kept going wrong... then it got worse:

Was going to go from dunfermline to edinburgh to do some studying for uni resits on a SUNDAY, just couldnt study at home (now i wish i did).

Just about to leave dunfermline, car skidded at a roundabout.. back end slid out and BANG just slightly on the embankment but rite into a pole. :(

Got some whiplash and my drivers seat is f****d as i hit it so hard, all i can say is thank f**k i had a seatbelt on!!

It is driveable, going to look for new tailgate and rear bumper then drive it to a bodyshop to get it assessed and see what other damage their is, hopefully minimal.

Insurance will probably not be worth making a claim through with my excess, loss of no claims and insurance price hike so will have to try and get it done private :(

At least it cant get worse than this for the car.. at least i hope not :(

My car has skidded out a few times in the wet, because of the s**t tyres on the back of the car arnt made for wet weather. so i take it easy.

hope you can get it sorted.

Hope you get your studying done for the resists. I am in the same position, got a couple of resits to do. pretty stressfull.

Yep, pretty sure it was the lack of grip from the steelies that caused me to skid out :(

Just spent today streesing about car so far.. feel to depressed to do any studying.. plus my back and neck is killing me!

Get Up To Sports car Breakers at Newbridge mate, they have a few MK5's Sitting with the tail still there, and bumper, only thing being is that there a different colour, but better that than not getting them!!! Also i wouldnt be driving about in it till you get it assed, as the could have be far more damage than you think, ie under the car, is any of the chassis twisted or anything?

If you did report that, i can almost be certain insurance company would just write it off as it dont look a viable repair, ie new bumper boot and whatever else that may be damaged,

yeah i agree with Ian - it might not be to simple to repair, i guess your just hoping you dont have to give up the car :P it sucks.

but that impact looks pretty full-on so wouldnt be suprised if youve done more damage than it looks!

That does look bad, hope you get it sorted though without too much trouble. Something always seems to happen to my car around exam time as well  last time i got hit by another car and the time before that my clutch went just before my exam :?

The car IS a write off if it was to be fixed by insurance as they would use new parts and labour would be charged at some crazy amount BUT i didnt inform the police or insurance of this accident.

Mechanically all that is wrong is the backbox, pretty easy to just weld and refit but then i would have a bashed backbox and a fu*ked tailpipe - oh well it may have to do for now - depending how much cash i have i will probably use same backbox and by a tailpipe to get welded off fleebay.

Body damage is obviously tailgate, rear bumper and bar tailgate sits on aswell as section spare sits in. There is also chassis damage, a slight dent. The tailgate and bumper have been sourced in blue for £100. Need to look for the spare wheel section.

Bar will need to be pushed back out and chassis straightened. Chassis is critical as i was told if it cant be fixed then will be MOT failure. Fingers crossed that can be sorted.

Amazingly if i can get chassis sorted im looking at a repair bill not that much more than my £500 insurance excess  !!! Plus its not going to be a shoddy job, just a small bodyshop my dad has known for time that do decent work. :D Fingers Crossed :D

**EDIT**

Repair bill might not be too much more than excess but just remembered will need my spoiler put back on, rear window tinted again and then if i want to take off the rear badge again that will need smoothed! Need to pay for my mods again :(

Not having a go at you mate, but it is an offence not to report the accident to the police, at the end of the day you damaged property not belonging to, The Post.

Also i wouldnt like to be driving a car that i knew had chassis damage, it will never be the same in a crash god forbid you ever had one.

But good luck mate !
