power cap?

Post by kipper »

i was wondering if n e one knows if i would need a power cap for my sound system? if i have my music up loud enough my lights dim and brighten again with the change in beat.

wat my sound system consists of is:
pioneer head unit
pioneer front speakers
pioneer 6x9's at rear
pioneer amp (1500 i think)
pioneer sub 2000w

You won't need one really mate.

I've read a lot of topics about caps, and the general answer is that they're not worth it.

They store voltage yeah so do give you a bit more power, but then when the cap discharges it takes the power from the battery to recharge so you end up gaining nothing.

That'll be because you're pulling more current than what your battery can deal with.

A better battery would help.

and a better alternator, or a 2nd battery to help it on it's way, with a "split charge" system so you can charge it off the car when it's running.

power caps are just for show.

i dont think its your battery which is causing the dimming of the ights. maybe a crossd wire. iv never had this problem before, but you dont need another power supply. iv got lyk 2 1000watt amps running off mine, and ma head unit and so on. maybe its your alernator?? take it to a garage. i took mine to a german parts place and they checked it for free haha. and my battery and filld my water and oil up for free! sometimes a trip to the garage helps out more than you expect mate.

It'll be the battery.

The only way to solve it is either a bigger or better battery, a second battery, bigger alternator etc

My interior light will dim when mine is turned up but the headlights don't (purely and simply because I have Xenons)
