Climatic probs

Post by meeker855 »

Everything is going well with the tdi apart from the climatic control!

The snag - Although the fan works and the speed can be controlled the temperature is always on cold, even if I switch it up to max heat it will still blow out cold air.

A few weeks ago it was blowing out hot air uncommanded... now its just cold all the time!

I've been reading about the flap motors which direct hot air into the cabin and was wondering if this colud be the problem.

Cheers for your help, Paul.

My Climatic is starting to really bug me. If on a cold setting it will sometimes briefly blow out very hot air (maybe just to bring the temp back up to the set temp but i mean it gets very hot! I open the window just a crack to let the hot air out and then it starts blowing cold again - very strange!

Anyone else's do this?

Mine does this also :(

It seems to get the right temperature after a bit of fiddling with the dials though.

I beleive its called the differential valve or something along the lines of that. Happened to my dad in both his passat and the merc. Also has happened to my friend with a 9n

Its the valve that intermixes the air to choose which is hot and cold - fairly simple to fix. Just needs a new one :)

I think thats the valve I was reading about.... sounds like its stuck at full scale cool.

Now to find where it is and a part no. for a new one!

Any ideas, anyone got a haynes/anything that would give some info?

Cheers!

I dont think haynes manual covers the air flow system in that depth - youd need a technicians service manual as its part of the air conditioning unit itself. VAGCOM may even be able to diagnose the fault.

I get this problem of having the hot/cold air randomness thing but its very rarely.

I did a scan of my Heating/vent/Aircon module last week and it came up with the following fault codes:

Address 08: Auto HVAC
Controller: 6Q0 820 045
Component: Klimaanlage

3 Faults Found:

01596 - Motor for Outside/Recirculated Air Flap (V154)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent
01596 - Motor for Outside/Recirculated Air Flap (V154)
41-10 - Blocked or No Voltage - Intermittent
01596 - Motor for Outside/Recirculated Air Flap (V154)
29-10 - Short to Ground - Intermittent

Don't have no other issues with mine, so I would think its to do with something about the air flap motors. I've cleared the fault codes as its intermittent and i'll see how quick they come up again before I try to sort it out.

Hey

Sorry to learn that the car has developed a fault and not really impressed that its decided to play up now.

IIRC air con system is covered by the extended warranty - have they sent your new documents yet?

Nothing to do with this thread, but how is it reacting to different fuel? Assuming you cant get Vpower diesel there, what fuel are you running it on?

flyfs6- I've got the docs for the warranty. Don't know if these flap motors are specifically covered though.
I've only had to fill her up a couple of times, I've been struggling to find V-power so am using normal shell diesel and redex additive.

Slickpolo- getting VAG-COM on it tonight, will see what faults it brings up. By the sounds of it it doesn't sound like yours is a mechanical problem just the wiring to the motor. Will be ineresting to see what mine is.

Cheers for your help!

Mine does the same thing sometimes, but I find that if I turn the blower off, wait and then turn the blower back on again it seems to sort itself out..

If you guys want some exploded diagrams of the ventilation system let me know and I will get them off the Elsawin app I have ;)

Although it doesn't provide any part numbers.

That would be good mike, give me an idea of where everything is!

Played with the VAG-COM tonight and it brought up these codes-

01596 - Motor for outside/ recirc Air flap.

30-10 - Open / short to b+
29-10 - Short to ground

Does this mean that there's faulty wiring to the air flap motor or is the whole thing goosed? Guess thats where the VW guys come in!

Any more help would be much appreciated!
