Sound Proofing!

I'm looking to install lots of sound proofing around the car, in the doors, boot, under the rear seats, etc etc.

I'm looking for a large roll of something to stick on for not much dosh. I've seen tar based things around, are these any good? Also, how tricky is it to lift the interior trim and install stuff then refit?

Has anyone done anything like this before?

hi there please remember that sound proofing is heavy stuff but you can have good reults
i used a roll intended for flat rooves which is bitumen on one side and pressed ally on the other.
to fit it i used a hot air gun and basicaly melted it onto the pannels
once its on youve got a night mare to get it off
concentrate on areas behind speakers

in the doors there are 2 layers in some places and 3 layers in others. the boot floor is 2 layers and the bott sides are 1 layer
i think i gained about 5Db but added about 20 kg minimum

People are conplaining and I'm losing precious bass. I like the Uk Polos add on the car. Very original. I think Josh should do that to his car on both sides permanently in black paint

Went into B&Q and Homebase today and found nothing suitable at all!

Maybe I should look elsewhere. Anyone know of any similar products for not much cash? Dynamat would be lovely buts its very expensive.

Weight isn't an issue, I can easily put on 30kg more wihtout probs.

I used 3M bitumen mats, they're available at car materials shops here, but they're not that cheap either. Probably cheaper than Dynamat though, even though that stuff is high quality and very efficient.

If the worst comes to the worst you can always buy Dynamat from Halfords, I think it's Â£19.99, but you do get quite a bit.

I heard flashing tape is cheap and does the job?

I looked into getting dynomatting for my boot and such but I have to say I never found it cheap by any means....

I like the idea of the ally in the boot but have a feeling that VW wouldn't be too happy to see that I've melted things to the panels

Plus it'd be a b***h to sort out if anything went wrong...
