It does sound like your second piece of advice, in that its been fine since, im not sure what to do,

Its gotta go in again soon to get new front brakes, light switch and MOT, ill ask them to check fault codes then.

Would have to agree with previous posts - a coil pack will be failing somewhere... missus 1.4 Ibiza did exactly the same!

VAG accept that it is a common fault as there were several batches of coil packs that did not make the QA standards required - but it was not realised until too late! VW's approach to the fix is better than Skoda and Seat as they will replace all four coil packs as a blanket job in the event of one failing - Skoda and Seat will only replace the failed unit (meaning a possible three return journeys)

If you find that your motor is running rough and has become underpowered - it will be best to stop the car. You may find that the engine is missing - this will allow unburnt fuel into the exhaust and could cause significant damage to the catalytic convertor!
