How low should i go?

Post by alexperkins »

Hi guys.

So the alloys are now on the car...but it needs lowering!

Now I dont want to drop it to 60mm as I need the practicality as I often have 4 people in the car.

Now ive been thinking of getting some 35mm lowering springs.

What do all you lot think about this??

Below is a pic to help you :)

Cheers!

I think 35mm would be a decent drop. Here's my car on its 16" RXII's and H&R 35mm lowering springs at last year's expo:

I still have the H&R springs in my garage, they've covered less than 1000 miles. I can bring them to edition38 if needs be :)

50mm Eibach's are VW specified and the ride quality is brilliant!

Those Eibachs are what I plan to get when I can afford expensive suspension - I think my car is too low and I'm moving to an area with a fair few speedbumps!

get the 60/40 kit you will be fine

i have had 5 people in mine on my 16's and it was fine and im 60/60

so 60/40 should be no probs as yours is a one letre it wont but so crazy low at the front as the engine i guess is lighter because mine is higher at the front than any gti i ahve seen with the same springs!!

I'm after £50 for them, they retail for £130ish IIRC. I can get a photo of them for you, if you want.

Photo would be great ollie :)

I thought about a 60/40 kit, but I just couldnt get my head round the drop. it means speed bumps are avoidable at all costs, and round here they are round every corner!!

Im right in thinking i can change the springs on the standard shocks (new shocks cost money :P which I dont have to spend!)

When it was as low in the pic, the drifshaft ended up hitting the chassis and doing this :
