Hi guys, according to VW, gearboxes do not need oil change. Gearbox has lifetime oil (?).
VW uses G51 gearbox oil which is very expensive.

Yes. What's it about?
Which 5th gear bearing would you prefer, plastic or metal?

Apparently, Forté are doing some oil additives for your gearbox. Its supposed to be brilliant. My VW mechanic says he wants to trial it for himself first before recommending it. They are saying that it can get rid of the notchy changes for starters amongst other things!!!! sounds interesting

Metal. They're available then?
Someone on here was researching it, and said he found one. But he never offered a part code

Finally the gearbox oil has been drained and replaced. Also the Forte oil additive included. My car now has 75 000 on the clock, and the gearbox has never felt sweeter.
She slips into gear, like a v@gina on heat. Awesome well recommended*****

If you want a metal bearing all you need to do is take out the plastic one and measure it....I guarnatee you that a metal alternative can be sourced...
However...there are a couple of reasons why they have used plastic and im not sure a metal one would solve any of your issues...
