Headlight Problem - known defect?

Post by alexperkins »

Hi guys,

Some of you will remember back on my MOT I failed because the headlight reflector in the nearside headlamp was all wobbly.

This was due to the outer adjustment pin having snapped inside where it connects the adjuster to the reflector itself.

Now, due to an incredibly vicious pot hole, my off side headlamp has done exactly the same thing - so now the reflector goes all over the place.

The interesting thing is that Hella replaced this part with a much stronger plastic to stop this happening.

Has it happened to anyone else?

Cheers!

Alex
Remember when I said to you about my bad day when both headlights had gone...?

Well... the same thing happened to me. The plastic that holds the reflector just crumbled away! I managed to get it to hold in with the back cover temporarilly until i got them replaced but it wasnt cheap at 80 quid per headlight and then labour

Yup - well im sufficient in replacing it myself (can get a new one for just over £60). It must have been a manufacturing fault on a select batch of the headlamp units. This car just burns money i tell you!!!

Yeah I thought you would be cool to do it yaself.
When I took it to VW, luckily it was covered under my warranty but they said it was quite a common problem when the bulbs get hot, the plastic basically wears and cracks due to the heat (apparently) its possible though

Spent a lot on the car have we? Hehe mine was serviced and MOT'd the other month. Luckily no real probs

ALSO happy birthday. I know its a bit late. I not been on the forum for a while and only saw the post a sec ago in another forum post. Have a good one?
