Got back my lightened flywheel, it's lost over 400 grams during it's diet, enough to get more "spunk" in throttle-respons, but not that much to make it unable to handle at stoplights. But am still trying to calculate the amount of mm's I need to get the new 1600 AEE cilinderhead shortened/shaved or however you call it (to increase to compression-ratio). Bit tricky since this will have to be more of a bit precise
Jarno might aswell be speaking in Japanese half the time...
Its like reading Performance VW Magazine all over again.it's lost over 400 grams during it's diet, enough to get more "spunk" in throttle-respons, but not that much to make it unable to handle at stoplights. About the flywheel, it's the big disc on your crankshaft on which your pressuregroup and clutch are mounted. If you lighten the flywheel, the engine will need less power to make it go round, which means you will 'loose' less power in the transmission, and will get more of the engine power of the engine on the wheels, also the engine will increase in rev's much faster then before, so your acceleration will increase too.
About the cilinderhead, it's the head from an 1600 cc engine with engine code AEE, which is a straight swap, but since the combustion-chambers in the head are bigger then in my original head, this will decrease the compressionratio -> less then optimal combustion -> less power.
So I will have to make sure that I decrease this combustion chamber in the AEE head, to get the right compressionratio (minimum 10 to 1), but I even want to go a bit higher then that, I wnat to get a ratio of at least 10,5 to 1, which means a 5% increase in power of the engine. therefor I will have to get to decrease the combustion space in the AEE head.
To do this the only way is to shave some (fraction of) mm's of the bottom of the have, but still make sure it's a 100% flat. But this amount of mm's goes in tenths of millimeters, if not less, so it will have to be calculated precise, and that takes a lot of time and brainstorming about what factors I need to keep in mind (of course I could just bring it over to some specialist tuner, but what's the fun and learning in that eh?

thanx m8, who knows, would be an honour if I'm ever to be approuced by a journalist from PVW!septic wrote:OMG Jarno is mad! This guy knows cars inside out!! You HAVE to get PVW magazine to do a feature of your car...it sure as hell is deserving of one!
But there are som eup-dates too
First ly bought this this afternoon:

Recon it would come in handy with the new head bein lowered and all, it's an adjustable camshaft pulley, with this I can time the timing belt (and therefor the valves) perfectly!
Also I fancied the hosing under the bonnet, don't have pics of this, but I can say that they are a lot mroe nicer to look at right now compared to original ones

Thanx for the compliments, would be "very nice" to be featured in PVW, so if any of you know an editor there
But here some minor up-dates:
Totally sanded and painted the gearboxsupport, batteryholder and batteryplat matblack, some paint I used on the engine, so it all looks the same

And worked some more on the boot-install, got me some new cloth from local car-interior shop, got home and started after dinner, then found out I was almost out of glue
So all I got to do was 1 lousy sideboard, score me some mroe glue tomorrow during work and hopefully get round to it this week
