Hi,
I like my polo. Its a nifty little car. But I find the pick up real slow. Any way of getting the performance up a bit. say above 100ps. Or is supercharging the engine is the best way to go? Thanks.

it all depends on whether the internals of the engine would be able to cope with the extra power that a supercharger would put out. my opinion would be, i very much doubt it.
you would have to upgrade a fgair amount of the engine parts to cope! i would save your money and get an engine conversion later on.
in the mean time, full exhaust, induction kit, remap etc would give you some extra power and more noise but not a great deal in the long term!

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the info. I guess you are right. I just read Jeremy Clarkson's review of the polo gti and its engine can infact be remapped to produce 237bhp but its downgraded to 147bhp. The only reason why VW doesn't allow the full power is coz the polo may not be able to handle it. Interesting.
I guess with the 1.4 polo, remapping won't do much to the latent power within the engine?
The first thing I would do when I get a hold on some dosh is to lower the ride and get a set of 17inch alloy. Will post picture once I have it modded. Thanks again.

147HP ? You mean hereby the Polo GTI 150HP ?
Of course this one is easy to remap to about 200HP as it has a turbo.
Your engine is atmosferic; if you'd like more power you would need to be thinking at adding turbo and/or compressor and probably changing the rest of the internals of your engine.
And the costs that would be needed to do these modifications are that much that you might as well better just trade in your 1.4 for a GTI or 1.9 TDI.

Hi Wouter,
Just replied to your post regarding the cruise control. These are some of the options I am looking at to improve the performance of my polo. I guess this option is not the way to go. It is short of just buying a gti.
Is there a performance chip for the 1.4 polo? remapping using vag-com may not be easy as I have just been introduced to this wonderful product. Sorry if the suggestions here sounds silly.
But improving the look will definitely be on my list of to do. Thanks guys.

What I find about my Polo brake system is that its really good. 3 times or more better than my BMW 325i (although it is 14 years old). Probably don't need changing for now. I will definitely go with the lowered and beefed suspension kit. Probably an 17" alloy. Will add some external grills to make the polo look more agressive.
My car was hit in the front when I was on holiday in another country. This guy's 4 wheeler just started rolling down the hill where he was parked as his brake went on him and hit my parked car and damaged only slightly the bumber and the badge. His car on the other hand needed major repair work on the spot. His radiator burst. Polo is an amazing car, isn't it. So I am taking off the bumper and grills and repainting them currently. Will put before and after pic very shortly.
Thanks.

BMW E36 325i ?alpolo9n wrote: my BMW 325i
Nice
Driven a E34 525i a few times already and it's just such a sweet engine (just too bad it feels so hollow below 4000 RPM). Not a bomb but gives you real driving pleasure.
In a 3-series it can only be better as the car is much lighter.
Hi, wouldn't want to talk too much about my bimmer as this is a VAG car forum, but what the hell. Here goes. lol.
The 325i is a great car. I have spent a lot of time on the bimmerforum and E36 happens to be the most viewed and subscribed section of the forum. Ya, it feels hollow as you said (IMO) below 3000rpm. After that, the car really pulls. I installed an aftermarket performance chip and that really help by pulling the rev limit higher by 1k rpm.
Thats all I think I should say before anyone flame me. Lol.
