Help me! Installing an Alpine HU in my Scirocco

I've bought myself a shiny new Alpine head unit for my GTII. It's the first time I've ever done a head unit swap in a car. I have the Blaupunkt Melbourne SQR38 (the old skool pull out tape deck), and I'm wondering how to get the old radio's cage out of the DIN slot. I noticed there are two screws each end of the unit which hold on the handle, and they go like:

I'm wondering do these unscrew and you stick the removal keys in the holes and it should take the whole thing out.

Also, is the wiring all pretty much plug & play? Will I need to swap any wires round?

Sorry for the silly questions, I'm still a bit of a newbie to all of this.

Removal keys should take the whole thing out - halfords, vw, places like that have them. Tis a U loop with little metal hook things on the ends for that one

I finally got the cage out by undo-ing a series of clips. I feel pretty stupid after fannying about with all the radio keys and stuff

Now onto the labryinth of wiring.

Now I'm confused. I plugged everything in to the the the loom that was included with the new Alpine HU, but nothing happened. Not a sausage. IIRC, there was a red and yellow lead with banana plugs on them which were attached to the loom, but there was nothing to connect to these plugs, so I assume these are redundant since everything went in easily.

When I plug in the OEM HU, everything is tickety boo. It works and everything.

Red and yellow are live and switched live. These do need to be connected, else it wont work lol thats the power to the radio basically. Im not sure what the loom in the rocco is like, but there should be a chunky red one - connect this to the yellow lead

the BBS RA's on your rocco....are they 14s? and if so what tyres are on them? (ive got my hands on a set

)

They're 15's with 195/50/15 Toyo T1-S tyres. Dunno if this helps you though.

It's all in now and I'm loving it. I love how seamless the iPod integration is

I wish mine was as seamless! Ive just had to order another cable which will override the radio to control the ipod, but as long as it stops the sound distortion i couldnt care less

What is your view on 14s with 195/45/r14s on?

Yeah, 195/45/14's should go well on the Polo. Your speedo will probably be off by 2.9% or so.

Its screwed as it is lol its either that or G60 steels - what do you think?

I'm biased but I'd have to say the RA's. They're bloody hard to clean though

I ran 13" steels throughout last winter with some Vredestein winter tyres. They were pretty good.

hey, re: alpine hu..
the yellow wire is required to run the internal amp,even if is not not to be used, this must be connected directly to the battery with and inline fuse at battery,there is a fuse near head unit wiring? the red wire should just plug in fine to standard iso plug (it may have come adrift small male to female crimp)
