Engine conversions

Ive not been on here in a while but im looking for some advice.

I used to be on here a fair bit, now not so much

Ive still bot my mk5 not driven her in a while though

Ive now got a Mk4 GtTDi which is a nice motor! 180+ Ponies and on 18`s


Now onto the questions.
Ive know of a 1.8T out of a TT (150hp, DBW. AGU engine code)
ive got a cracking chassis on the polo already (after a little overhaul)
When I do the brakes on my golf ill have some 288 carriers doing nothing)

How much effort is involved in dropping in the TT engine. The current engine is the 1.4 8v AUD. as i mentioned above i have brakes (288 MK4 GTTDI) coilovers, braces. obviously labour is going to be my own.
I know electrics are going to be a PIG! has anyone got any clues or advise?
The engine comes with; turbo, gearbox, engine bay loom, possibly mounts, possibly driveshafts. What else will i need for the conversion?
I have a Madac 2.5" cat back exaust and i can weld, will this be sufficient on the 1.8t capasity wise? is there room for the TT downpipe?
I realise the Brakes are smaller than stock tt but the weight will be a lot lower, I plan to remove the entire interior, all sound deadening (from a 143Db install ) im intending on a set of clocks, 2 seats and possibly a cage. what sort of weights can i achive without going the whole hog on lexan glass and the silly stuff?

Im basically looking to get some track fun on a serious budget so street legal isnt a nessesity but possible would be nice

The downpipe from the 150 should fit (I enquired a conversion in the past) I was told that the 225 downpipe is too big though.

The car weighs a little over a tonne iirc so you should maybe be into mid 900kg I should imagine.

Wiring loom, clocks, ecu, ignition barrel (and keys) and any immobiliser from the TT would make for less of a headache too.

Would love to see you do this, but it'll be tough, ive heard the 1.8 20vt engine is a tight squeeze in a 6n/6n2 bay, maybe 5mm or clearance... your gonna need custom engine mounts too.

Quick question though... the TT came in 180 and 225 flavours, where'd you find a 150?

hmmm ill have to check power.
ill have to see how bored i get lol the car could have alternative ignition systems as the chip/barrel/immobiliser are in the key codeing which can be toyed with if needs be

Ahhh, yes the FWD version. That was a German only car though, LHD and limited to the first production run if I remember right.

Just realised too it'd have to be that version you'd drop in the Polo anyway... not sure how the Polo's chassis would hold up to a quattro conversion.

You can drop the 180bhp in, the came in fwd as well.

That's the one I'd have gone for if I'd have gone ahead with a conversion.

I thought about this many times, But i'm afraid you'd prob loose all that handling, unless you were going for just the 1/4 miles, as the fron of the car will be far far heaviever!

So watch out for those corners if you do!!!! Dont think there is a full guide out there on how to do this, ass thats where the companies that do the conversions make there money, the Knowledge and Labour, But i do believe you need 9N mounts, i could very well be wrong.

As stated earlier in the thread, i'm on the hunt for a rear ended Golf GT. 170BHP out a 1.4, yes please, and i do believe its a drop in job with the Engine and box, as there the same mounts. and with it being a 1.4 the engine is not any heavier than the AUD 1.4 8v or 16 engines.

So it will keep the handling and with being a lighter car than the golf, faster too.

i cant see there being a massive amount more weight in the 1.8T as they ar both all ally although the 1.8 has all the externals of the forced induction. the 1.4GT sounds fun but its a massivley complex and unexplored engine. could be very pricy though!

does anyone have any links to any sites documenting this kind of conversion?

It would be pricy if you put it to jabba or a similar company, just like they charge anything 5K plus for a 20v conversion for the 6N.

But have to disagree that the 1.4 AUD engine and the 1.8T may be similar in weight etc, as stated there is hardly anyroom left in the bay once in, as the WHOLE engine takes up the Space, where as the 1.4 or even the GTi doesnt.

Just i wouldnt like to throw it into a corner at speed like i can do with my car, Straight line speed for a conversion would be immense but couldnt really seeing it being a corner car. Dont get my wrong i toy'd with putting one in my car. but the idea of the Golf GT engine appeals more, as it is no doubt very much on the nose with the wieght, If i had a shot of the golf and its stupidly quick for being a 1.4, and for the weight of the car, alot to do with the SC and TC makes it go.

I suppose its somthing worth living with. I love the "throw it in" handleing
