tuning 1.6 8v
tuning 1.6 8v
alright
i have got a 1.6 8v engine AEE engine code and i am wondering what i can do in enhance the performance before i put it my polo instaed of my 1.4 8v.
i was wondering what would cam do and which 1?
also and induction filter and which 1?
4 branch exhaust?
also for the same car i have got the standerd brakes on the front i was wondering which brakes can be put staright on?
thank you in advance

ah ill b doing this come crimbo time hopefully. Sept mines an AEA, yours is multipoint mines single, think thast the only difference...
Ill be camming, throttle body-er-ing, ram air induction type thing to the bodies and maybe if i can afford it some head work, gas flowing etc.
Boring it out to a 1.7 would be nice, if possible. Not sure about that though.
in terms of induction kits id say get a foam air filter of some kind. Pipercross kits are good i think viper ones are aswell. but you want a proper in line one or a big ol cone if your gonna do anything.
Hell if youve got the money a BMC filter is good, very popular among the "valver lot" lol. Flash bastards with their hundred horses... ill beat you yet just you wait lol.
In terms of camms? im not to sure. Dont know much about them. Scriss or schrick whatever you call it make good ones. Very popular quality good apparently. Expensive stuff though. theyre is a tuning company that does it in hertfordshire i think. Just north of london. Well a bit further north of london. But still. im sure someone will kindly post the link for us as i cant remember it. Did have it saved at one point dont know what happened to it though...

Re: tuning 1.6 8v
Cams let's the engine suck in more air-fuel mixture, since it opens the valves longer. When running a 270 or lower duration cam, you don't have to worry about tighter valvesprings (necessary with cams of higher duration then 270 degrees, to make sure your valves won't "kiss" your pistons at high rev's)ronny wrote:alright

Brand doesn't make much of a differnce, Schrick, Crane, ABT, Oettinger, Sorg, SLS, Rothe Motorsport, Suko Motorsport or Cat Cams are good brands/companies for cams in delivering quality products. I would advice a cam of 268 duration, most common used and easiest to gain lot performance but keep emissions under control (necessary here in Holland because of yearly check-ups by government for emission of CO2 etc. )
Induction kit, I prefer cotton ones, foam let's a tiny bit more air pass per second, but requires a lot more maintenance in order to prevent engine-damage by dust/sand etcetera. K&N and Green are a bit pricy, but very reliable.
And your standard exhaustmanifold is already a 4-branch m8
Take a 4-2-1 manifold/header, this gains torqua and performance mostly in the lowers rev's, which comes in handy in street-use. Taking a 4-1 manifold gains less in lower rev's and more in higher rev's, just what you prefer here, but for street use it's best to take a 4-2-1 manifold.
Brands? I've got a Raceland one, good quality, same design as Supersprint, so got gains, but at lower price
And for your braking, since you putting on a turbo or something that drastically, I'd just go for a "stage-up"of your standard brakes, that is mounting drilled discs in stead of the original ones, and fitting pads with higher compound (Ferodo or EBC's are my favorites, got myself vented and drilled Zimmermann discs with EBC Greenstuff pads on front, brakes like a j*nky spotting his daily grams of bl*w

That's indeed the only difference in the engine.LeMeph wrote:ah ill b doing this come crimbo time hopefully. Sept mines an AEA, yours is multipoint mines single, think thast the only difference...

.
If your worrying about the costs of flowing the head, don't even think of boring the block out to a 1.7 liter m8
Yeh jarno me and you are gonna have sonme long discussions in the future about my car i think lol.
you are the guru, i am the muppet with no idea what hes doing haha! Im probably going to get a company to do mine all for me though, hopefully. So i shouldnt need to work ym head round thigns. I can just jump in and go weeeeeeeee.
Id like to do the work myself, and its not so much the fear of me breaking things its more the fact i dont have the tools or location to do it. All garages available to me to work in (home garages that is) are tiny. You cant even walk past my car in my garage its so small. God knows how me mum fits her 206 in there nightly lol.

Most works don't need that much space, or time, so you can do most outside (like fitting cam or manifold)LeMeph wrote:Yeh jarno me and you are gonna have sonme long discussions in the future about my car i think lol.

4-2-1 manfiolds, go to club polo and look in the jackson tuning forum, he's a great guy to deal with and damn good prices.
ordered a full mild exhaust system from him, it came from Germany within 5 days to my door.
not sure about cams, Advanced Autosport Technologies do some pretty interesting kits for tuning the whole range of polo engines, but if you compare their site to Sorg motorsports.. they seem to be the same so i dont know if its the UK trading name of Sorg or they have some kinda of dealer status.
im looking at tuning up the 1.6 8v mpi (aee? aea?) so far i just picked up an exhaust as mines hanging off. But with some 256 cams, a decent throttle body and perhaps a chip/remap i dont think it will be far off 100bhp.
as for BMC's they are really good quality (bar the air feed) but the price is ridiculous! im personally going to be using a universal filter and running long piping up to behind the lights to try and give it a tiny boost in torque.
im sure jarno knows this too, but the 1.6 is pretty nice and torque for such a small engine, and if you start having head work done i dont think it'll do it any favours, you'll lose a lot of that low down grunt and start having to really hammer the revs.
good luck!

mpi = AEE, I know a bloke who fitted a 4-2-1 manifold, de-cat pipe and a K&N replacement filter on his, got the bastard to 94BHPPeteJ wrote:im looking at tuning up the 1.6 8v mpi (aee? aea?) so far i just picked up an exhaust as mines hanging off. and the 1.6 VW small blocks are indeed quite nice powerfull engines compared to other car-brands, but of course it can always be improved, you have a point in the revving, but after head work, power at any rev will be increased, but indeed the biggest increase will be at higher rev's. (just to complete your info m8)
