Things I Should Look For When Buying?.

Post by PLuKE »

Hi guys. Am hopefully putting in for my driving test soon, Currently have a 1.0L Polo which once my test is passed i wil be selling or might keep not 100% yet, But either way i want a 1.4 TDi. What problems is there with this ones if any being a VW. My whole family have VW group cars. I had a look on Jabba and Revo and will be looking at 110bhp from a remap. Now my mate has a Ibiza 1.9 Tdi Sport remapped to 170bhp and the clutch is slipping which is common. But will the 1.4 Tdi have any problems like this?.

Also, Lowering, What mm do they go down in? And whats the lowest they can go without lowering on 15" or 16"?. As i have seen some on here that look the dogs when slamped!.

Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forum mate, not entirely sure if this is in the right section but anyways!

are you planning on telling the insurance company about said remap because if you are, expect a hefty price hike in the premium!

all remaps are different, dino on here has a 1.4tdi polo 9n (75bhp) and has had a custom remap and he reckons hes up around the 100 bhp mark now, although his car was giving 86ish bhp at standard.

the clutch on the ibiza is probably slipping due to too much torque! revo remaps on the 1.9tdi pd 130 engine give in the region of 180bhp and 300 ft/lb of torque and its in a spike which will more than likely kill the clutch all too quickly.
Custom Code on the other hand do a similiar rmap but it goes to 175bhp and around 280ft/lb of torque but this is in a more progressive curve which will aid the clutch.
the same situations can be applied to the 1.4tdi engine aswell, too much torque and the clutch will slip!

as for lowering you need to be more specific on which model polo you are talking about (mk5-6n2, mk6-9n?) as both models suit different sizes and drops!

soirry about the length and hope it has been of some help to ya!

Thanks. Well my mates Ibiza had a new clutch and new mass flywheel today. The mass flywheel was knacked on it to much movement which also made the clutch wear odd so it need both. The guys said at the shop said that big spike in torque (which is big as its nothing nothing then bang)

Which would be the best place for a remap on the 1.4 TDi for a more progressive power curve?.

Also i have found my answer about lowering. Its the 6N2 the 2000-2001 Polo. Am hoping to run 195/45/15 alloys with a 60mm drop.

Thanks

i'd have to say a tdi is better, the turbo gives a nice push when u need it, and for a 1.4, they are suprising quick!
best places for a progressive curve are people that can do a Custom Code remap, ie- JBS

or just go to http://www.custom-code.co.uk/ and there should be a list of suppliers on there!

195/45/15 and a 60mm drop should be no problem at all as long as the wheels do not have silly offsets and stick out too far!
