im considering another set of tt comps, as i have had them before and want that wide and squat look they provide the car with
only thing is i previously had them on with 215x40x17 tyres and they rubbed like a b***h on the arch bolt at the top of the arch
so if i get them again i would be looking at 205x40x17's to lose some width and hopefully prevent catching
but is this enough, i want to really be able to go over the bumps or give it some in the corners without it hitting the archs
is this realistic, as if not, im as well leaving it and sticking to what i have
after all, iv bought a gti and spend thousends on engine and chassis mods so i can use it properly, i dont want to have to be tamed by wheels rubbing

The main problem with TT Comps is the offset - 32mm.
I had a set on a mk4 Ibiza a few years ago (same chassis remember) and they really sat flush with the arches, although mine wasn't lowered and thus didn't catch.
I have a set of wheels on my Polo in identical width (7.5J) but at 38mm offset and 205 tyres on there looks to be plenty of clearance, although again my car is not lowered so I can't say 100%, it just looks like it would be okay.
Incidentally the ABT wheels that I have are OEM as they were originally Audi dealer excess stock and due to the shape of spokes there looks to be masses of room if you wanted to put huge brake calipers on too. All a bit wasted on me really as I plan to keep it pretty much standard!
I think a set of mk5 Golf GTI replica alloys in 5x100 but 7x17 instead of the ickle 16 inchers on the Polo GTI would look really good, thinking about this for my next move.

what have you got now?
I'm slammed on 205x40x17s and have had NO catching whatsoever once the inner arch is slightly modified (10 mins to do per side).
don't worry about rubbing, worry about things such as the harsher ride if you're on 16s
for more performance stick with 16s, for looks then get the 17s.

then you definitely want the TTs.
It's simple, take out the bolt, pinch the metal bracket closer together (fingers or hammer will do this - gently), and then slightly snip the arch liner so you can lift it up and tuck it behind the metal tab.
leave the bolt out, the arch liner is still in place and very secure, it's just now tucked behind the metal bracket rather than in front of it and nearer the tyre.
FYI I'm running BF Goodrich tyres. Others could possibly rub?
