cd player

Post by manny88 »

For those who read my previous thread i did end up buying the 1.4 tdi :D and its pretty damn good.

Anyway onto this particular thread.......the polo that i did buy is 1.4 tdi twist 04 plate but has no cd player  just the standard radio/cassete. So i was just wandering can i get a cd head unit to put underneath the radio/cassette or do i have to take the existing radio out and put the new head unit in its place?

P.s any suggestions on a cheap and cheerful headunit

My tip would be to either get a single VW cd player or the VW multidisc player from ebay - just wait until one appears within your price range. The storage tray thing just pulls out, the radio moves up to the top slot, while the radio is out of its slot fit the illumination wiring cable,a separating support/divider slots in below the radio and supports its weight, then the cd player is fitted in the lower slot. This way you get OEM look and not the garish shiny aftermarket look. Don't worry too much if you end up buying the cd player without also getting the additional illumination cable and/or the dividing support as these bits can be bought from VW - the support is approx £5 and the cable is approx £12. Or, look longer on ebay and end up with the newer radio/cd player that replaced the radio/cassette. Final option is to join the 21st century and go the MP3 player route (I haven't taken that route) complete with transmitter.

I thought iPod etc could be used with a transmitter and you just tune one pre-set to it and "Bob's your uncle". That is what my daughter did when she came upon CD player problems in her Ibiza 6K.
