don't suppose anyone has 2 pics of the engine bay and what the 2 engines look like polo's aren't my strong poibnt there too rich for my blood lol my banger cost £1000 a year a go 96 p polos are about £2000 now for the same age.
i'll shove em up tomorrow sometime, the 8v is the old style binnacle though - before they switched the rev counter and speedo. I presume it'll be the same engine and redline though (60bhp).
just wanted to knwo if there compatable or not cause i am a lazy git and the bulbs have gone from half of it and scrappies here don't charge too much for binicles i just wanted to knwo basicly what differences there where before i stick in a 16v and it's an 8v and she blows it to bits trying to redline lol although saying that if it's a 16v and i get her an 8v she'll save lots on fuel lol.
nto really sure as said not very familier with VW's in general can't be too hard on my mondeo it's 5 screws holding down the upper dash tip steering wheel down remove upper dash 6 screws holding ni the binicle unclip wires, throw in the new one rebuild.
any tips?
also whats the difference between the 8v and 16v mechanicly? obveriously 8valves but what else lol
also mean't to say sorry if i seem dumb about engines but i don't knwo the difference between the VeeDub engines i am a ford man by heart and haven't had nowt else had a 1.3 HCS escort a 1.6 CVH orion a 2.0 Pinto Sierra and now onto a Zetec modeo and none of those engines look the same lol.
The stock wheels were either 175-65-13's (base model), or 185-55-14's (16v), or 195-45-15's (GTI, see first pic). Similar (or nearly equal) in diameter is 195-40-16", which of course was not an OE wheel size. This means that if you stick to these sizes, you're good to go. Aim for an offset of 35 - 43. Offsets are explained here. Any other sizes means you're more likely to run into trouble. The Mk4 is prone to rubbing if the diameter is increased even slightly, for instance if you're fitting 195-45-16 wheels + tyres, instead of the correct height of 40. This is also the case, if you're running 195-50-15's instead of 45-series. Get the right size, you'll be glad you did.
Smaller, wide wheels are popular too. For instance, 195-45-14 looks small and wide, but if the car is lowered enough, it has that cool rollerskate look to it. Keep an eye on the ET though, even small wheels rub if they're poking out enough.
