i thought the GT ones were the same as the standard ones (i.e. not G40) seeing as there not ventilated, and otehr thing, ud have to change the whole housing for it to fit by the looks of things. Which is realy a mech job...

Yes, the GT ones are the same as the other models apart form G40. The G40 ones will have VW II marked on the calliper, and the carrier has a bar across the front. I have a picture somewhere of the ones I fitted to mine.

a job for a mechanic. You wont really want to change ur breaks because it involves dis-conecting the break cable, and u'll haveto flush it out and everything.

Yeah, I've just fitted VW1 pads on mine.

yeah, G40 ones wont fit into non-G40 ones or vice versa, there a totaly different size. The G40 is also ventilated.

i've fitted the G40 brakes to my GT. It's a simple job if your feeling confident. I'd never touched the brakes except to change the pads (with my dads help) but I managed the whole job, including bleeding the front, in an afternoon.

The callipers are a bit wider, about 2mm i think, than the GT and the disks are ventilated (gaps down the middle). The carrier is a bit wider than the GT 1 and does indeed have VWII on them and a bar across the front. They're the same as mk2 golf 8v GTI's and mk 1 gti's, and can come off sirocco's too!

The hardest bit is not damaging the brake pipe when you change it. A haynes manual will be a great help.

If your unsure, don't mess!!!! Just get a mechanic to do it. I'm happy to be of any help I can but I'm in bournemouth!

Hope that's alright for you :)

They're not too bad to fit, first major job I did on mine.

It's 4 bolts for the calipers and one for the discs each side, plus brake lines and they're a straight swap.

With a Haynes manual, the only thing I needed help with was bleeding the brakes.

Ohh very nice :P

Brembo max discs and green stuff pads should work very well. Add a set of braided hoses and you're laughing
