Sounds like it's not connected to the permanenet live, you should have two power leads, one to connect to the ignition and another to connect to the permanent live. This is the one that retains the settings.

You are thinking right - Red and yellow wires are Permenant Live and switched live - your head unit obviously requires them to be swapped to retain all the memory

Normally the lead (Harness adaptor) that you get with any HU has bullet connectors on the yellow and red wires so you can unplug and swap them over - red to yellow and yellow to red

bstard childs right, you need to swap the red and yellow wires and it will save all your settings, presets etc. My Sony hu worked plug and play but my Pioneer one doesn't save jack, and now i can't get the bloody thing out!!!

Pics are a great idea in any situation

A better idea would have been if all manufactures could have agreed on the same damn wiring format!!

its only VW abd Vxhaull that haven't on the ISO wiring?

On these u defo have to change the red and yellow bullets around. Don't be afraid, theres only these two wires seperate from all thr others, you can't go wrong. If this fails, which it shouln't seeing u ain't done it yet then the headunits faulty. i had a system that forgot vol settings, presets etc

This pic should work

Most HU connectors are just like the ones above and allow you to swap the red to yellow and yellow to red to reverse the conections and resolve the memory loss problems

Can't see the pic till tonight but

If currently you have red to red and yellow to yellow

Then swap both so red goes to yellow and yellow goes to red

well its done. i cheked the wires, was scared to try and do it incase i broke it. so i stopped over at a shop which fix car audio, and he done it for me in a few secs. thx guys 4 the help.

another question though lol. now when i want 2 turn it off, it doesnt turn off it shows the time. i pull the face off to turn it off now, but does that mean the HU is still on?

How about you read the HU handbook  and find out if it's supposed to do that or not
