Footwell lights

Post by Arnoldo »

Well decided im goin to stick footwell lights in coming into the winter months. Most of the parts that are needed are got just have to get a few things sorted first.

Q1. - Whats the best way to get power from the battery into the front. I remember reading a guide a while back about hw to do it but cant find it :S

Q2. - What standard buttons come on the mrk 5 that I could use e.g like the heated rear window button.

Want this to look as standard as possible and dont want a rough job.
Cheers for any help given.

If i were you, id wire it into the sidelight system - ie when headlights are on, so are footwell lamps.

Best way to go is through a grommet behind the airbox - a little fiddly, but possible by all means

Im gonna get some low power LED ones for mine, just need to get hold of the right bits - plus gonna put some in the doors :D

Fit it to either the Heated windscreen button area, or in the useless cubby hole above the fan controls -thats where my switchboard for all my accessories is located

I havent got a pic on mine....but i can get one of its position (i drilled through my foot well and installed a grommett!!)

The candidate grommets are shown in these threads

It might be easier to tap power from something else in the dash though?

These terminals are ideal on the MkIv golf but I can't find them on my Polo.

Anyone know where they are?

probably right behind the relay board and fuse box - only accessible with the dash off!

I jacked the power from my cigerette lighter, wsa so straightforward got them fitted in about 20 minuits. Then again MK4s are like lego im guessing a MK5 is different, but you can still take the power from the cigerette lighter without a problem i'd imagine. I've got white in mine, they look really cool and make a nice change from the corsa blue
