:/ why does the Polo's Central locking pump suck

Ok my pump stopped working a while back now I just aint ever got round to fixing it. So I took the pump outta my car and had a look at the problem....and guess what is was.. CORROSION!!! oh yes water has some how gotten in to it and destroyed the circuit board. hehe

Ok now my question. The pump I have has the model number - 1HO 962 257 J and i think it has like 8 connector pins. So I have bee searching on Ebay and phoning a couple of place to no avail of finding a pump with the same model number. I have however found the same model number with different letters at the end, eg, 1HO 962 257 F

Anyone know if any pump with the same model number but different letter will still work? I dont really wanna spend Â£110+ on a brand new one

Been there, done that!

The pump marked as 1HO 962 257 F was dropped from VW as of 01/03/1997. For replacement you should use 1HO 962 257 J

But i reckon both will work. You should also look in the scrapyards for the Golf III or ibiza pumps. Cheaper and they will still work (i've tested those)

Common bloody fault as water seeps through the rear light gap into the right compartment where the pump sits. You can get it reconditioned too but your best bet is to go breakers or try the golf/ibiza pumps as they're cheaper

for the golf and ibiza ones you got any model numbers which work dont wanna go get one and it dont work

and to save my new one im gunna put a clear plastic bag round it and seal it

no water getting in the new one

or if u could give me an ebay link for a Golf/Ibiza Pump that wud work, that wud be awesome

I prefer to use german ebay, because of the euros and that since it's the home of VW, it always has parts on auction.

If you do a search at ebay.de for Zentralverriegelung Pumpe or ZV pumpe you will get a lot of results of substitutes pumps that will work on your polo.

You could also try english ebay. Just as long as it's from a Polo 6N, Golf III, Ibiza 6K or Passat 35, it will work.

But if you are still unsure just ask the seller the number on the pump and i'll let you if it's compatible.

But you do know that if you spray yours with WD40 and leave it in the dry sunny weather (do you have that in the uk?!) it will work fine. Just get the water leak taken care of. It's probably the tail lights seals.

agh don't get me started on these bloody pumps. I've now put a big sponge in the well the pump sits in to soak up any water that gets in, sealed the pump with duct tape, and whacked a gerat load of sealant around the light.
