Finally...

Post by Mouse_GTI »

got pulled for my German plates! The cops were hiding in their Volvo in a dark opening on the dual carriageway on a tight bend, no idea how they saw me. As I passed I saw them pull out and instantly knew they were after me, even though the reason wasn't too obvious at the time. Came up quickly behind me so I pulled over when they put the lights on. Cheeky copper said "You know these are illegal don't you" and "Maybe we should get Swedish plates for our car" lol. They proceeded to check the clearance of my wheels, checked my spare, check my insurance, checked my details, checked my car details, just looking for an excuse! Just got a warning to change the plates.

I can sympathise with you Mouse, although we know when we put illegal plates on it's going to happen at some point.

Cost me £60 in total and 3 different sets of plates

I'd love them to ask to see my spare

Thats what I was gonna say. They can't be arsed with chavs driving around with italic/3D wierd font plates but as soon as they spot a plate with german font they pull u up asap and try finding every excuse to make a bigger deal out of the misery they cause you. Don't even know if I have a spare  Never even saw my boot mat since the day I bought it 8 months ago.

In the eyes of the law there is no difference between yours and those plates, both are illegal, so I don't understand your grievance.

Probably a little less likely but they are still illegal because of the font :P

The reason is because they dont reflect like normal plates - i think thats the issue due to it being pressed metal

These awful fonts with the italics and 3d still reflect properly unlike pressed plates :(

This has come up several times before.....

Provided the plate was made before 2001 (Sptember from memory) the rules changed then the font only has to be not substaintaly different from the original font.

Obviously if after 2001 you are stuffed completely as the number plate wouldn't have existed or been issued therefore it can only be the "new style font" and new style rules.

The problem will always be it's hard to argue the toss with the officer "discussing" your plates without winding him up

well thats not entirely true alex cos my german plates reflect, as seen in photos i have taken at night with the flash on.

Its all s**t in my eyes. Mines are reflective and much more readable than these italic plates and ones that read words by people sticking a screw in to make an R look like a B for example.

Rant over, its just cos i got caught and pulled like 3 days in 4 days. No longer run german plates :(
