Post by htid-gordy »

i wonder if anyone can help me my car has started making weird whining noises from the front and it keeps popping out of reverse and grinding the gears. i have a thought that it might be the clutch release bearing but dont know really. anyone know the answer? cheers gordy.

apparently the problem is that the gearbox is shagged so does anyone know where i can get a spares/repair polo 1.4 or a fairly low mileage engine and gearbox cheers.

ok now does anyone know roughly how long it would take to swap an engine and gearbox in a 1997 polo? with all the correct tools. cheers.

Ok, I have just had my gearbox replaced, I paid for a new one so i can't give you a decent guess on prices. It took the guy 3hrs to replace my gearbox only. But again, I haven't changed the engine so i can't give you a guestimate on that. However it will derpend on familiarity with the job, go with someone who has done it before and they'll know what they're doing.

I hav seen in Trade-It mag's companies who specialize in refurbished engine and gearboxes who also fit their product's and give you a years guarantee.

well actually what i have done is gone out and bought another polo with less mileage on the engine and a gearbox that works so im going to swap the clocks gearbox and engine out of this one and into mine. i know a mecanic that said it would take him a day and a half to take it out of one and into the other. would anyone say that would be reasonable but obviously not constant. can anyone say how long in hours you rekon it would take? cheers.
