MOT Worries!!!!

Post by polobear »

My MOT is due this month and I was wondering how you guys with slammed car get on i.e. not being able to get a trolley jack under the car nor get the car on ramps!!! Do you guys raise your cars for an MOT or do MOT places normally find away round it?

I think that unless you've got a very friendly MOT man, it's a fail if you can't get on the ramps (correct me if I'm wrong people)

Well if they can't get it onto the ramps, then they cannot inspect it properly so I would imagine it would fail.

I'd suggest maybe checking with some local garages if they'll be able to get your car onto their ramps before booking it in anywhere.

On the other hand a lot of places now use the flat "drive-on" ramps where you just pop the car on them and them lift the ramps up away from the floor in order to work on the vehicle.

I cannot get a standard trolley jack underneath my car and mine has passed its MOT with no trouble.

Cheers

Cool, cheers for that guys, I'll pop to my nearest MOT place tomorrow and see what they say before I book it in.

It's not the ramp you need to worry about really, it's rollers which go into the floor to check your brakes, almost hit my splitter when it bounced in (this was when i was only down 60mm)

Yep, the rollers are worse then actually jacking the car up. My car was deemed low but didn't fail its MOT on that basis. He did however say the arch was too close to the tyres which'l cause scrubbage on normal road driving, which would be dangerous and unsafe.

However, cos the guy knows me he passed my car. Reason being he knows I got colies so they can be raised for MOT +his an enthusiast motorist himself; had an Impreza, then an RS4, now a Bora V6 4motion.
