engine swap

Post by ronny »

hey i dont know if i am puttin this in the right area?

i am thinking of putting a polo gt engine in to a 96 6n polo.
i just wondered if it fitted straight in if not what modifcations will need to be made.

also what will i need with the engine eg wiring ecu?

thanks ronny

Hi ronny,

The mk3 gt engine (1.3) is 75 bhp, but the 1.6 polo engine is 75 bhp too, this might well be an easier conversion.

fair enough, didn't want to see you starting something that could be more difficult than another option with the same outcome!

Afraid I don't know what such a conversion would be like.

The only relevant information I can think of is that early 6n 1.0's came with (essentially) the same (1043cc?) engine as found in the mk3 polo, so it must be physically possible to change a mk3 engine into a mk4 chassis. That could be useful to know when it comes to engine mounting, driveshafts etc.

is it really worth an engine conversion for that engine? Mines a 1.6 8 valve as standard and its alrite, but i wouldnt say it was worth the hastle of doing an engine conversion for! Plus as soon as insurance hear "engine" your premium will rocket.

i believe the GT is a bit pokier then the 1.6 though...

May have the same horses but if the GT is a better engine then go for that.
