engine making noise

hi guys..im new to all of this,

just bought a polo 1.4 16v 2000reg and it sounds like a diesel is this normal??

and is there anything i can do to get rid of this sound?

Now you say it sounds like a diesel. Is this all the time? Does anything make it quieter/louder? When was it last serviced?

its fine when i rev it and when im driving, its just when i start it up and if im waiting at traffic lights... so basically when im stationary. only serviced 300 miles ago

kinda vibrates while stationary if that makes any sense??
