Handling
I think the weak point of the GTI was it's handling, certainly according to the press. It's still very good but just not as good as a 106 GTI/Saxo VTS. Now you can get the OMP front (upper and lower) strut braces and a Fabia/Ibiza rear ARB, just wondering what else you could do? An LSD would be great if possible and probably best if you wanted to spend mega bucks and get the engine to 160+ bhp. Would also stop the annoying wheelspin that you get even with just 125 bhp. Any thoughts?
LSD = Limited Slip Differential,Tim_GTi wrote:have you hads these done? IF so how much do they cost if you dont mind me asking?tegwin wrote:
You could also replace all rubber suspension bushes with poly versions to help stiffen things up a bit...
Mouse whats LSD?
As for the Bushes, i have had mine replaced with Poly Bushes up the front, And front rear, this was £70 odd if i remember right for all the bushes,As we well know, a race car driver wins races from shaving lap times by cornering faster. Because of this many teams and constructors try to make cars that maintain higher cornering speeds.
On every car a basic differential is fitted to to distribute the engine's power to the driving wheels. The basic differential gear (d1 below) supplies the power to wheels which is/are loaded with least resistance. This allows the cars wheels to run at different speeds in a turn with least resistance.
However, when a car is cornering close to it's limit, the car will exhibit roll, a leaning to one side, causing the inside tires to lose forward traction and lateral grip. The wheels lift and cause excessive spin because of lack of downward force or weight distribution. This wheel spin is useless for acceleration until the tires regain traction and start to translate the power to the ground.
An LSD is used to alleviate this wheelspin.
Yeah Mate From Venom Motor Sport, they sent me the wrong one's at first but swapped em no bother,Mouse_GTI wrote:....or you can take some LSD, get in your GTI and pretend your superman![]()
Silly question but how do I change the bushes and where can you get uprated ones from?
As for fitting them got a buddy whos a mechanic and done it for Fuckall, Easy when shown how, hardest part is getting the things out, Luckily mine were f****d anyway, But a wee hacksaw does the trick, Copper grease the new ones up and away you go.
There's 4 Bushes in total i went for, Front Upper and Front Rear! You'll see on Venoms Site mate.
