Thought id let you in on my latest project - a 1.4 16V 100BHP engine in my 1.0
Picked up the engine stupidly cheap, with no gearbox, keys or loom but thats not too much of an issue.
Now, i know the engine will drop straight in, but what changes do i need to make to the loom, and as i havent got the keys how can i get around this...can i just use my exisiting immobiliser setup?
Alex....you will need the ecu and loom. The ecu on your car is the 1.0litre ecu and will be totally mapped differently. The performance would be seriously stifled and wouldnt warrent the conversion.....i suppose you could get a remap, but thats up to you. If you did go for the 16v ECU you will also need the loom as the ECU connectors are very likely going to be different.
The keys, i'm not sure....i think it would be ok if you were running your stock ecu and loom but if you did change then they would need to be recoded to suit.
When i done my GTI conversion, we originally tried to use the 8v loom and ecu but it turned into a complete nightmare!! So ended up using the GTI ones! DEFINITELY the right way to go about it.
If i were you alex i wouldnt skimp on things, if your going to do it, do it right.
With regards to the gearbox, i have no clue....should be fine.
plus the fella has everything you need near enough listed down. id do all the work on the block while its sittig out of the car if i were you then drop it in and bam bam thank you mam.
could you get a 3rd party programmable ECU, like they fit to high performance cars when fitting completely non-standard engines?
forgive me, but I know little about them, just that I've heard them mentioned on the old tuning sites...... I'd have thought there wouldn't be too much difference in looms between the engines, but sounds like there might be.
Alex, i'll take it from you if your selling? sorry to hijack but how hard would it be fitting it into mine? will i also need the loom? im sure the ecu's are different so definately going to need that. Good luck trying to get it to fit it though Alex, you need the power more than i do
boy that is cheap. my 16v sounds totally crap like the bottom end needs cleaning out, drives like a 1.4CL and really rough. Don't know if its worth it or changing the engine altogether. Wish I could've bought the engine off you if cleaning mine out isn't worth it. Having to save up for insurance so letting my engine get worse, which it is quickly +its done 87k and has that illusive erratic rev issue.

i'm not overly sure bud but i would assume the ecu connections would be different....which means yeh you would need a 16v loom I couldnt even tell you if the 16v loom and GTI loom are the same.....best thing to do is buy everything all from the same car to save disappointment.
