Temp gauge problem

Hi can anyone advise me on the problem with my 1997 1.4 CL polo, the temperature gauge does not move and the heater does not heat up.
The car runs very well otherwise.

I think ur sensor plug might have popped out. It happened to me on my old corsa, not sure if the Polo works the same but i presume so. If you have a haynes manual check that m8

thermostat stuck open, simple way to check, take it out for a drive and then feel the water hoses, if there RED HOT itl be the sensor, if there abit warm, thermostat, Hope thats some help
