New Polo

Post by billionfoil »

Hi everyone,

Just ordered a new Polo GTI in diamond black, was going to go for shadow blue, but then changed me mind as already have a dark blue polo.

Will be the new reg (08) in march. Might do some mods on it hopefully.

I don't think I would buy a car without driving it first. The suspension is pretty harsh on the GTI.

Having said that though, I don't think you'll be too disapointed with your choice :D

ha, you think the suspension is harsh in our GTi's...just try driving an Ibiza FR TDi (my old car) you bounce along not drive along the road lol...
they still lean round corners tho hope they sort this out with the new Polo, as it's supposed to be a revised set up of the 9n2....what have they let themselves in for?

Great Choice, Great Car love my GTi

Yeah, I'm no stranger to Ibizas having owned a mk2, mk3 and a mk4! The 130 TDI does have pretty bad suspension, but I don't think the Polo is far behind. The Fabia vRS rides much better but is also a bit sloppy.
Awesome have recently had a stock of 9N Whiteline rear anti roll bars in which I think could be a wise investment for the Polo, much cheaper than the Jabba bars.

Next generation Polo can't be too far away now, be interesting to see how they change it.

Well as i said before i already have a polo, so i know wht there like and the Gti wont be that much different in size.

If I didnt already have a polo, I wouldnt of just bought the gti, until i test drove it.

As for the supension - in what way is it harsh.

Don't panic, it's not overly harsh but you will feel potholes and imperfections far more than on a 'lesser' Polo, having said that if you already have lowered suspension you'll know all about that already!
I have driven Polos with the Sport suspension and they seemed quite smooth riding so I think the GTI has uprated suspension from that but rides at the same height as a Sport suspension equipped model (eg. Sport and GT).
My Polo rides on 7.5x17 wheels so that obviously highlights it more and is probably why I'm picking this issue up. My last car was a mk5 Golf TDI and that had a very good ride considering how well it handled (much better ride vs handling balance than the mk5 Golf GTI in my opinion) so I'm probably being over fussy as the mk5 Golf's sister the mk2 Leon FR has a rock hard ride, more so than the Polo GTI and similar to an Ibiza FR/Cupra!
My Polo GTI is the only car I've ever had that gives me back ache!!! And I've owned well over 20......that's why I agree you should drive it before buying it.

Seriously I think you'll be really pleased with your Polo GTI as it has lots of really nice touches not found on other Polos and compared to a car with lowered stiffened suspension the ride is fine.

My mum has an Ibiza FR. The ride on my Polo GTI is 10 times better than the FR, dont worry about it mate. I didnt test drive the Polo GTI before i bought one, dealer couldnt get hold of one.
