Post by mwarner87 »

need help with my bumper, whoever owned the car before me put on these GTI plates
Image

as you can see there are four screws attaching it to the bumper

Image

i have a set of german surround and german plates to go on, but i dont want to be making more holes into the bumper, as i think its bad enough as it is

Image

the german surrounds dont fit perfectly with the holes and the registration plate position on the car

i dont know what to do to get this right...

any help would be appreciated, thank you

With the surrounds i have/had, i just drilled new holes in them to make them line up - otherwise mount the backs with number plate tape, and the plates with the same.

But previous to this, before the colour coding, i had little VW surrounds on and i just used the old holes, matching them on the surrounds.

Your saying none of those holes line up!?

If you have to then yes, thats what you may have to do.

yeh if possible drill through the surrounds, then stick the plates to the surrounds.

If it's not possible i wouldn't worry about it too much, my bumper has about 3 different sets of holes!!

if your plans are to smooth it in the future, a couple more holes aren't going to be alot more work, i wouldnt worry about it

Thats what god made double sided tape for
No seriously i dont drill bumpers any more even on new cars i just double side them all on! If u do it well and use good tape (they make super strong stuff 4 number plates) they will NOT fall off

Yep a good make double sided tape, i.e. Wurth will be a total bastid to remove the plate. Will not come off easy!

We prep new cars for a company, and always double side them wherever possible.

Hate dealers/people who drill into fresh new bumpers, number plate holders!
