Help... Power loss

Ok this has been going on for a couple days now my car is terrible to drive, power loss, misfire and sounds terrible, i had a bus overtake me , everyone on the bus was looking at me, ive changed the temp sender, spark plugs and lambda sensor before the cat, two new air filter, and an oil change plus filter, none of this has cured it, i didnt use my car for a couple days then just went to start it up the other day and the problem started
Any ideas and ways to test them would be appreciated please

As ive said previous, you really need to find someone or a garage thats cheap with a vag-com system to check the engine over - youve got a serious issue here.

Its possible the MAF (air flow sensor) is causing this, or perhaps your fuel pump is on its way out. Try replacing the fuel filter - this could help.

How old is the polo and how many miles has it done?

shes just done 47,000 miles 2000 model W reg the thing is all the garages around here are quite expensive for them to plug in there computer, and right now i don't have any money it could have happened at a worse time, im a student i've taken leave off work exams in january so need to revise

I agree that going to get it checked out is the best way to solve the problem, otherwise sods law will be you end up spending more money trying to diagnose it yourself that the problem is to fix

Sounds to me like the airflow sensor but you need more advice from someone who's looked at the car not via a couple of guys on the net.

Take the £70odd hit for VW to look over it and get on the DIY to sort it yourself I would says the best option once your 100% what it is.

The VW here charges £96 an hour so your VW sounds nicer £70, is there a way i can see whether it's knackered by looking at it or does it have to be scanned also where abouts is it?

Youd have to connect it up to diagnose it - it sounds like an electrical fault to say the least. And if you dont get on top of it quickly, you could irreversibly damage the engine!

Think its a standard rate for the check so shouldnt take an hour, they simply plug in a computer into a port just behind the ashtray (I think) and thats about it.

Lol down here, we change £68.90 for a diagnostic - i think its only guideline and they do what they like with it.

I understand why they charge so much, but i currently just don't have that money to be honest, to many expenses and not working, i'm just wondering is there anyone near me with a VAG-COM, i live in Sutton Surrey, on the subject i just took my car to quick fit two in fact one of them said my cats going and my back box has gone, the other said the backbox has gone but my car is only running on three cylinders

Hey guys i went to VW this morning found this really nice technician, who done the diagonistics for free , it came up with it's misfiring on all cylinders 1,2,3&4 told me to leave the car with him for the morning so i did, came back told me the leads we're on the wrong way round, each car is different and don't go 1,2,3,4 and one of the HT leads had gone which messed up the spark plug, he changed the spark plug and HT lead for £15 gave me his number and told me to call him if i had any more problems he said next on my list is the belt don't know what it's called but it should be changed every four years

just an idea

have you checked that you havent got any air leaks check pipework from air filter to thottle body, this could cause your problems,

also has the lid to the airbox been fitted properly!
