Hi All
What temperature does your GTi normally rest at?
My GTi seems to sit just above 70º on motorways and shoots up to 90º in heavy traffic but never over that. My brothers 6N warms straight up to 90º and stays there regardless. Just thought it was strange mine fluctuates so much!!!!!

Yep more than likely a temp sensor problem.
Probably the troublesome 4 pin green type!
Most late VAG cars, i.e. around 1999-> should sit virtually dead on 90

Maybe my wording wasn't right, but its the original "Black" sensors which are troublesome.
Never seen a brown sensor myself

The GTI? I've always only seen the black ones on these, which then get superceeded to the green type (059 919 501A)
A very common sensor, which is also used on many other Audi's, Golf's, etc

But I thought this thread was for a GTI operating temperature!
Yep the green one is the new one for replacing all the old type of 4 pin sensors

About 1/4 of 1mm under the halfway line when fully heated up, to be really picky!
