boot open warning light
Hi guys
got in the polo today and set of down the road to pick my mate up. on the way (its only 100 metres down the road!) i noticed the boot open light was on, which i though was strange as i hadnt even been in the boot! when i got to my mates i opened and firmly shut the boot and the light did go off...for a short while before coming back on!
its now been on all day, at some points it flickers, but pretty much constantly on.
anyone got any ideas what could be wrong? anyone else had this problem?
thanks

Speak of the bloody devil. Mine was playing up AGAIN this morning. It has been really cold recently though. Got out of work, went to use my rear washer and it seemed a bit better but still not powerful. Minute later the light was on.
Got the panel off, dried it all out, sprayed Halfords Water Dispersant on it and the light is still on. Hope I don't end up needed a new switch again

if your on about drying the area out, yes extremely!jonners_gti wrote:
think i will have a look at it this weekend. is it an easy job?
just open your boot and unscrew the plastic cover on the hatch, then carefully unclip the plastic tabs still holding it on, then its just a case of drying it all out with a towel or whatever....

had a look at this yesterday. the clip had just come undone, so water was spraying into my boot as well as my back window. the previous owner must have had this problem too as there was already some black tape around it!
i also broke one of the clips when i took the cover off, but when i looked closer it had already been glued. had to glue it back on then left it in the house overnight to dry.
switch seems to be working ok, no need for a new one thank god!

You need to remove the lock in picture 2. The switch is on the other side. It pulls out easily with a little help of a flat-head screwdriver.
Here's a diagram i drew of the switch:
http://www.btinternet.com/~chris.hocking/AIR/switch.bmp
Be careful because after you undo the two bolts holding the lock in place it will still be connected to the rest of the locking mechanism.
PM me if you need any more help.
