My box of bassness (help?!)

In my mk2 Golf i have a 14inch sub. I dont nessesarily like it that much its too bassy for me but the whole system sounds dry and hollow when its not on. And its not on. Its started cutting out when i first got the car then i left the motor standing for a while got insured on the 14th and drove away to find the sub dead. Ive checked that everythings correctly plugged in. The amps on. Ive tested the rca leads by trying on new ones and that didnt work. Cant be the headunit as i changed the head unit to try and solve the problem as the old one was as old as me.

Im pretty dam stumped. I though maybe the amps somehow got f****d but then surely it wouldnt turn on if it was knackered?

u checked the fuses?

Check the earth point is nice and clean and making good contact. That can cause all manner of issues.
