abs light stays on

hi new to this but can anyone help i just bought 1995 polo and the abs light stays on all the time previous owner has had it in garage and they said nothing to worry about it has gone through two mot s like this any ideas why it is on , the brakes have been checked and r fine. :oops:
also i need a couple of new door hinge pins anyone no where i can get them cheers .

the mk4 suffers badly with abs sensors going a bit gay! the sensor gets dirty and then this causes the abs light to come on. 2 options really. 1 fit new sensors or 2 clean the original ones. when i had a mk4 i found they were worse in the winter when it got wet etc, the time when abs is most useful! i gave the front wheels a monthly jetwash and this seemed to help

first of all you need to have car pluged in to a diagnostic machine before you touch anything. either main dealers vag1551 or most comenly used by specilist garages VAG-COM.
jonboy is right that it could be a sensor decided to die but as the vehicle has 4 of them using computer will help indicate which one is past the sell by date.
if u can get to mansfield which is probley miles away from u i could vag-com it for you.
