Fitting 205/40/17 and lowering on a 9N

Post by Neil9N »

Im new to this guys so... Hi, im Neil. I have a Polo 9N Twist 5DR, its black with black tints. The only other things it has at the moment is red neons in the footwells (dont like them anymore!) and a pretty pants sound system (which needs an upgrade).

Anyway ive just ordered a set of Borbet LS Black Polished 17" alloys with 205/40/17 tyres.

Now im guessing the car will be riding quite high once they are fitted, so am i able to lower the car without rolling the archs and without the wheels rubbing the archs. If it is possible, how low can i go?

Cheers, Neil

Hi and welcome.

Most of the Borbet LSs I've seen are 7 inch wide rather than 7.5 so you might get away with lowering it quite a bit!
If you're going to get coilovers you can experiment a bit with ride height, but if you're going for a conventional spring/damper set then keep it sensible.

I'm a big fan of the LSs, quite popular in Germany and Borbet are very good quality wheels. Many OEM wheels are made by Borbet too, including the Evolos on my Polo. :D

The ride height with those wheels will be the same as standard (give or take 1-2mm).

You should also be able to lower it as much as you like providing the offset isn't less than 32-30mm. As above, if you do this you'll want coilovers.

With a spring set you should be able to do 30mm no problems.

I have a set of Eibach Sportline Lowering springs for sale if your interested. I had them on my car for about a year and they are one of the best quality springs. Eibach state they lower the car 50mm at the front and 35mm on the rear.

Here they are on the car with the same size wheels and tyres you've ordered:

And the springs themselves:
