Splitter from hell

Post by r_penny23 »

Well got my GTI splitter yesterday and went about fitting it this morning.

I'm not a complete novice so go the old standard off just fine but when marrying up the new (supposed) GTI splitter it fitments were really different. Ended up cutting the fitting off with a hack saw and using as much force to bend it on. It went on eventually however not very easily and have had to use self tappers at either end to ensure it dosnt come off.

The part number was 6N0805903EB41 I think, is this the norm?...what a pain in the ass! :x

On a more positive note its looking good and also fitted a GTI gearknob and gaiter which was easy and looks 100 times better than the standard 16v one :)

have you got a pic of the splitter to see whether it's correct of not?

I'm pretty sure the splitter is a pain in the arse to fit though

My original one was easy to fit, but my new one when it had been painted was a total biatch!! Rubber mallet all the way

Heres a couple of pictures (sorry it was getting dark but hope you can make it out)....not entirely sure if it is a GTI one however its on and hopefully fingers crossed not going anywhere. I've also included one with my new GTI gearknob and gaiter which surprisingly really does make a difference.

Now just need to think about a drop which I've been putting off forever, source some LS's, some new mats and some interior handles to spruce up the inside.

whatch think?

The splitter is very hard to fit and needs to be stretched quite a lot

looking good 8) ,

however, i'm not convinced that is a GTi splitter? Its really nice! (dont get me wrong) but i dont think its the GTi one,

It hard to tell cos of the dark pic (plus i'm on a laptop) but it looks a little thin for the GTi one

not just me then. in the top pic if u look on the left hand side of the bumper it doesnt seem to stick out much. it seems to smooth to the bumper for a gti splitter.

Yeah does look a little bit thin. Looks like the one off the 6n 16v bumper. However the part number is correct a guy of cp posted the same number. Does look pretty niffty though.

its getting there... :)

Im unsure its GTI as I had to cut it so really think its another models and a c*ck up on the model number which I was told was 6N0805903EB41 but agree its more like the 6n 16v...a little different I suppose so still please with the result for now anyway8)

you might be able to see these a little better, really want to know what it is now. Your right its not appearing to be as deep as the GTI and the fixing were completely different to the one it replaced. anyone know the model code for the GTIs?

i thought it was ok to fit, first time i did it there were a few choice words but once you get the technique down you can whip them on and off in half an hour or so

rubber mallet is definitely the weapon of choice

Can you please post a picture of your gear knob?

I'm trying to find out if the "i" is red. Mines silver but looks like it might have been red once...

I suppose you could just tell me...
