what advantages do they have over the standard? are they more expensive?
Valeo clutch is OEM in many cars. Sachs after market, but not uprated, i might be wrong. Valeo, Sachs and LUK are just leading brands thats all.

My Valeo has been in the car for about 1000 miles and it's still as soft as a feather, compared to what it was like standard. It might be the case that I've got a different Valeo one to standard

mines well stiff at the moment, and gets kinda crunchy/squeaky after long periods of driving.

How much did you guys pay for a new clutch and fitted?

You can get the Sachs clutches from Euro Car Parts, they're about £80. They do have a website and do delivery, more than likely you've got one local to you. Web site is - http://www.eurocarparts.com/

Its definitely a Sachs part they sell. I have in the past ordered one from them. In the end returned it because I didn't need it at the time.
The local Euro Car Parts won't have it in, its not something they hold onto, but it shouldn't take much longer than a few days to get.
I wouldn't say the Polo's much more difficult than other cars to get parts for. My first car was a Toyota Starlet SR, now they're more of a faff to find parts for, seeing as you didn't have the option of places like EuroCarParts and GSF, and the only alternative was Dealers (£400+ for an standard exhaust) or Scrapyards, of which there are only a few Japanese Specific ones across the country (£80).

My friend got a SACHS clutch from eurocarparts a few weeks ago. I find it hard to believe they don't do them anymore.

Check again.
