Black interior???

Post by bbspolo »

Had a mk 4 golf aniversira (cant spell) in at work 2 day and whilst working on it then driving it about i decided that the black interior was the nuts!
So this got me thinking would this look as good in a polo, has any1 done it before ? and could it be done?
My thinking would be that u could get the headlining dyed black (dont think they ever made a polo with a black headlining?) then get all the piler trims covered in that stuff they used 2 cover dashes in motorsport (a friend of mine has a e46 m3 and all his piller trims look like there covered in that stuff as standard and they look very cool)
Then the only bit i am strugling with the sunvisors, grab handles and rear view mirror (unless golf bits fit? then i could use aniverisery bits)

Sadly i cot way 2 much going on at the moment 2 be stripping the gti out but if i can work out how 2 do it then ill def be doing it at some point!
So any idears ppl??

I think the Lupo GTI had black sun visors - they might fit

You can get a black mirror from a 6n

I have a Bora sunglass holder in my car but it's not a perfect fit, so the grab handles are probably slightly different

I'd hate to take the headliner out- it's very fragile. Mine hasn't been right since I took it down a bit at the front to wire my new mirror. The sunvisor rubs against it now when I move it, and i was being careful :(

I know Carlos on ClubPolo had a set of anniversary Recaros in his GTi, but he sold the car quite a while ago. Black headlining is standard on Lupo GTis, so they have a black mirror and sun visors. Headlining you'd have to do yourself, but it's not extremely hard if you know what you're doing.

Flocking!

I knew a guy who used to have a machine for doing this. It's an electrostatic machine that makes the fibres stand on end. A race prep company should be able sort it out. I'd say it's hard to stop once you get going, flock every surface on your car

my cousin has just done this in his mk4 golf to immitate the anniversary style bits, has just lightly dusted all the piller trims sunvisors grab handles and headlining in black 2k paint, and it actually looks bloody good, not bodgy at all, headlining feels a bit rough to the touch but when does anyone feel your headlining !

Cost him virtally nothing and i think i might do it on the next polo i modify.

I'm doing it when my car goes in for a re-trim sometime in the next couple of months.

I'm thinking about this too, I have a black r32 mirror in mine now, it looks a bit crazy from the outside next to grey sunvisors

I've just had a look on vagcat.com: The Lupo grey sunvisors and grab handles part numbers are not the same as the Polo part numbers. I'd still guess they're a straight swap tho. The Lupo GTi does have a middle visor, which is good news

Then flock the pillar trims

But then spraying the roof lining, and the bits lining the doors... I don't think I could do it

Well so much for not doing this for a while I went down 2 a fabric place 2day and got black fabric dye!
Flocking thats the one :D if any1 has a number for a company that does this then ill c if they will do a group discount if any1 is intrested, and if u dont fancy getting this done on your gti trims then i have loads of spares like 4 or 5 cars worth that i can get done so u can keep your gti 1s just incase u ever want 2 put it back 2 stock!

no u just dye the roof lining! ive done this before and it rearly is so easy and looks stock (thats how vw do it anyway)
Then as for the door seals i was thinking get mk4 golf ones as there black and the same (just a bit longer but even new polo ones have 2 be cut when u fit them)

no ! im not sure how they do it think they charge the trim (run a currant though it) then the matier sticks its self evenly 2 the trim!
All i know is it looks the nut ( c if u can find a pic of the inside of a m3 as all the trims r flocked in that)
