hey people, just a quick one, my gearbox is currently in the garage for a re-build but the guy was sayin to me tha its kinda un-fixable!!

has anyone else had this problem? i thought you could recon any broken gearbox? just a case of re-buildin the broken parts :S

i dont know what else to do with it now, just hope they can find a way to build it back!

maby what he is saying is that what ever has broken is more expensive 2 replace than a new box ? or what ever has gone cant be bought sepriotly (but i cant emajion that)

Keep us posted cos if worse come 2 worse and u have 2 buy a new box ill buy your old one from u!

will do! what would you do with my old one though :S i hope i dont have to buy a new one, thats mega bucks i think init!

a re-con one from VW is around £900 i think

Strip it and use the slavagable parts as spares !
Ive got 5 or 6 dead ones at the moment and when ither mine or one of my mates cars munch there boxes i use the dead ones 2 rebuild the others!

At a guess, the aluminium casting is cracked or distorted...

It may be possible to get an engineer to weld it up and machine it back into life, but no idea how much it would cost...

Before you write it off, make sure you agree that its knackered...no harm in a second opinion!

just had my gearbox done my box was cracked and badly worn where the output shaft bearing sits only had reverse and 4 gear left used a box from 1400 polo and replaced the gears with second hand ones cost around £300 to do not as quick top end but its on the road
