OK....now what I did was drill a couple of 2 inch holes in the bottom part of the airbox.

The holes were placed nearest sources of cooler air, like in the bottom and far side.

A few reasons for doing this...

1. Seats crazy prices for a plastic tube.
2. This mod id FREE
3. Well tested on other 1.8T like TTs and well known mod to increase air flow.

I used vag-com, for my own interest, to measure the torque. Before, after, etc.

Cant be bothered at this moment to list all the readings but there was a definate improvement in torque.

Whats more when the TT guys tested all this they found that you dont even need a performance panel filter. The standard paper item with drilled airbox gave much better flow.
