To re-map...or not to re-map???
To re-map...or not to re-map???
Right folks, been considering for a while now getting my Polo re-mapped, but i'm not sure which company to go for and wether its worth while with out any other mods other than a Forge 007p dump valve, green cotton filter and PD160 intake!
So my question is this:
Go to Awesome GTi and get an APR remap
Go to JBS and get a Custom Code remap
Or wait until i've upgraded exhuast
Answers and comments always welcomed!
Cheers.

Without a doubt, custom-code.
The guys are absolutely superb to deal with. My 2.8 24v VR6 ECU is with custom-code now for a phase 2 remap, Mike has been dead helpful with advice etc, and they've got the discount on til the 31st - 30% off!!!!
My Polo is absoltely superb with the phase 1 remap from CC.
Give them a ring, you won't be disappointed. They dont claim massive peak power figures, or map the engine for them, the overall map is what its about.
They'll also do a phase 2 to include any future mods later on, and c**t the price on that.

if your planning on more mods, wait, just be patient lol and get the map to finish your set up, asking the map question will get you 90% biased answers from whoever mapped the particular persons car, like id reccomend awesome, because i have had dealings with them before. However i havent experiences CC so i cant really give valid advise, phone them, and explain what you want from your map and then decide which is best for you, its your decision
if your going for a generic load and go map, the maps that the companies are offering won't be too disimilar, its the custom maps where you find out who maps cars well, if you get me.
HTH

Cheers for quick replies guys!!!
To be honest, dont think i'll be looking at any further mods other than maybe a Miltek exhaust, but i want that to be spot on just like Jeff's so may hold off on that for a bit!!! Wait for some more funds.
Got some wheels getting refurbed at minute, so they'll be going on when summer comes around!
Suppose if Custom Code are offering discount at moment, it's gonna work out £100 cheaper than APR!

I bought my Polo with Revo already on and it ran good.
But I remap for a living so had to get a good German file in the ECU - good German Programmers make superb software.
Whatever you do just get it remapped and worry about other mods afterwards. Fortuntately the ME7.5-1M ecu handles changes very well indeed - it constantly learns and can adapt fueling to suit, etc.
You will just love the extra BOOST... lol

Well i'm gonna ring JBS and Awesome this afternoon and get prices and ask when they could fit me in and how long they'll need the car!
I'm tempted to go to JBS cause its nearer and about £100 cheaper, but the fact that the APR remap that Awesome do, doesn't show up on vag-com, is slightly making me thing i should go there!!!
Are dealerships off with you if they know you've remapped the car??
Suppose if they are, could always just take it to a specialist for servicing!

What makes you think that APR is any less detectable than Custom-code?
All remaps can be found if they look for them, for a start you just need to drive them, or if you disable it, you can still find it in the system with the right software.
Go with JBS, you wont have a problem at all.
Dealers don't care about remaps, you would ony have an issue if they could prove the remap caused any fault.
They'll still service the cars etc fine.

Yes they will still service your car but warrenty claims are a different matter. From my experience - 10 years in the motor trade - if a vehicle can be proved to have had a remap that is not factory approved the manufacturer will not pay out. Yes you can go through the courts and argue the case but is it worth it? I cant comment on any other remaps apart from apr but i had a tech look at my car and he couldnt see the remap.
If you are worried about warrenty, dont get the car remapped. It really is that simple.MateyGuv wrote:Yes they will still service your car but warrenty claims are a different matter. So you think that cos some tech couldnt see your remap that you'd be ok? I guarantee the could see it if the guy knew what he was looking for.MateyGuv wrote:I cant comment on any other remaps apart from apr but i had a tech look at my car and he couldnt see the remap.
Whatever dude. You made a statement i believe to be wrong so i said what my experience is of these matters. I'm not worried about warrenty, never said i was. I got too many contacts in vw to have to worry. You obviously have greater experience with vw as a manufacturer than i do. Someone was worried about warrenty so i thought my post was relevant. I'v had my car looked at by a vw master tech - he must be wrong. I'll let him know your available for coaching, sure he will interested in what you say
im sure in our hearts of hearts each and every one of us here all wish we was good as andy, and he shall be rightfully referred to as "andy the great", if only we too could be so great our lives and our posts on this forum would be worth continuing,
it seems like nobody can say a single thing without fearin "andy the great" coming online, only too happy to correct people in a rude and aggressive way, im right and your wrong again kind of way
oh "andy the great", your such a hero to all people of this forum, a leader im sure, but if you wanted to slip away and never come back im sure we would all manage just fine
as for nearly everyone saying as APR is undetectable, people are quoting this as its a statement from APR themselves, not just a statement made up by individuals who thought, yeah, that sounds good eh.
a tech guy from my local vw main dealers took my car out and said it was chipped, yes, he know by driving it as it was, but could not prove it with the VW diagnostic system in their workshops, thus being the reason a got a new gearbox under warrenty when my second gear syncro started grinding and not told to get lost
i saw him the week after in awesome gti having his wifes polo 1.8t mapped with APR software, when i was having my miltek done,
he was made up, telling me how with APR it does not show to the VW diagnostic system, i just nodded agreed and said, really, wow thats impressive eh, then laughed
so seems on more than 1 occasion through members APR has prooved to be hidden when it needs be and yet very much alive on the road
