9N Headlight Question

Did any cars from this model come with for HID's as standard or as an option at all?

This model of Polo had HIDs listed as an option on the NL market models prior to launch - but unfortunately this option never made it through to the production models. I would think that the cost that they would charge potential customers would have put most people off specifying this option - especially the price that VAG UK would be asking for. If it had been available as an option, then I can assure you that I would have requested it when I bought my wife's car in NL.

How much in total would this mod cost, Iv always wanted these lights (well the full kit, not just diy bulbs)...So does anybody know the going rate for a decent HID kit inc vat for the 9n?Cheers

used them for 6 months and cant fault them. i know some frown upon them as theyre seen as ''too bright'' but i think theyre essential on dark roads

Just always remember that these aftermarket HID kits are not legal for use on UK roads under the current department of transport rules. Use the search function on this site or briskoda.net for further details. Plus there are no real HID kits on the market to fit head light assemblies that have not got projector lens built in as standard. Just consider the work involved in chopping up your head lamp units to convert to projector lights - without knowing where to position the actual light unit! HID units with older reflector style head lights just means that you are spraying out a hap hazard blob of light, which will light the road up better for you perhaps but dazzle all other road users - ie no clearly controlled cut-off. Okay for chavs thought.

As I have said already I'd just love to say that I have them fitted, I specified HIDs on my Passat V6 back in 2000 and they are fantastic. On the Polo 9N unfortunately I am confidant that I would never end up with the same performance with illegal aftermarket HIDs - all I would get is what has been said by others, ie lots of extra light but not really where it needs to be and where it should not be. There again if someone actually did exchange properly set-up projector lens HID head lights for the Polo 9N, then I would jump at it - but for this to happen would take ££££££££, so I'll need to stick to using better but legal bulbs.

What are 'better' bulbs, iv got whatever they come supplied with from VW. What do you suggest and how much is it likely to cost me in total for the entire changeover?

i drive my mothers golf and i have to say my lights appear to be better! my dad agrees too after driving my car. now im sure the quality of the HIDs on the new gti are fantastic, but i find the end product... light coverage on the road and whitness of the light very good on the kit i got. im not saying the golf's have bad lights, but the kit is marginly better
it went through the mot no questions asked either although my garage is friendly so i'd double check it with a random garage

Thats the only concern I had, the MOT, after reading the group buy and some of the information provided on there iv started to think twice about the whole idea Cant make up my mind

iv had hid's fitted for about a year now although i have angel eyes which are projector style. i can totally agree with m7 the light output is excellent!!

passed mot no problem with them on!
