Firing Sequence help

Post by polo-sib »

Hello,

This is my first post, I currently have a
1.0L (999cc Injection)
1997 Reg Polo L

I recent replaced the:
Distributor Cap
Rotor Arm
HT (Distributor to Spark) Leads

However when doing this I made a huge mistake I didnt note down the locations of where the cables are ment to go, I managed to find out my firing sequence which is: 1-4-3-2

If anyone can verify this it would be great, I also found out my rotor spins anti-clockwise

Due to me not noting the cables down and having not much previous experience I need help in findout out which part of the distributor is number one, my neighbor said it will be the bottom one, so my set up should look like this

====3====
=========
=2==o==4=
=========
====1====

(is this correct or is the number one connection at the top?)

Secondly if you are looking down at the engine (front on from the front of the car) which cylinder is 1, does it go:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 (left to right)
or
4 - 3 - 2 - 1 (left to right)

Any help will be appreciated and thanks for any help in advance

i think cylinder 1 is the one thats closest to the timing belt so i think it goes from left to right, 1 2 3 4

it is indeed 1234. for usre.

I buggered this one up aswell lol. Just chuck em on and see what happens. apparently you cant damage the car in turning it over. If theyre wrong it just wont start up. Keep reconfiguring untill you get the right setup and hey presto your done. Thats what i did.

Number one cylinder is nearest the cambelt, and the order is 1-3-4-2.

The firing order :wink:

As you did a nice little drawing I'll use it again

It will be either

====4====
=========
=3==o==2=
=========
====1====

or

====3====
=========
=1==o==4=
=========
====2====

or

====1====
=========
=2==o==3=
=========
====4====

or

====2====
=========
=4==o==1=
=========
====3====

If you try it in one squence and it doesn't start just move the leads round untill it runs
