engine management light on again!

hi,

i have a polo 1.4 16v 6n2 and my engine management light comes on for around 3 or 4 days and then goes off for 1or 2 days then comes back on again. i have already once replaced the map sensor and its not showing any faults on the computer....also when i start it up in the morning it idles for a minute or so as if its going to cut out but doesnt!

can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

My wife's 1.4 16V 2003 Polo throws out codes now and again, in fact its fault light is on again but I have not read the code yet. In the case of this car it always logs a fault - have you been reading the fault codes and clearing them or just going by the fact that the fault light goes out - so no fault - then it comes on again some days later. IICRC a fault exists and triggers the fault time, if the fault disappears the fault light will stay on for a further 6 or so fault-free starts - but the logged code will still be held in the engine management's controller - until it has been cleared by VAG-COM or any other suitable scan tool.
