POLO 1.4 TWIST AIR BOX NO COLD AIR PIPE?
POLO 1.4 TWIST AIR BOX NO COLD AIR PIPE?
Hi On The POLO 1.4 '04 TWIST, there seems to be no direct air pipe link to the body? The Air Box has a inlet at the front and the bulkhead has a rubber opening to let the cold air into the engine bay. The two are not directly connected. This seems contrary to the cold air pipe I am used to seeing on my other non VW cars. Anyone know why VW has done this? I would change it in cold feed pipe, that's if I knew why.

Yes I wondered why this final link had not been made with a bit of rubber bellows type of stuff. Some engine types get this fitting but not the 1.4 16V 75PS engine. By the way, combining the aircleaner with the engine dress panel is not that new - my daughter's 2001 Ibiza also has one - so that means that VW have been doing this for quite a long time. Changing the element is a nuisence since there are lots of self tapping screws to be removed to split the housing - but it does work!

I would not think that there will be any discernable difference in performance or consumption, in any case when the car is moving it will be getting cold air forced in through the bonnet grill area. There is still a hot air feed as normal when its needed. I'll check up sometime soon to see which engine gets that final connection to the bonnet air intake, though providing this could in very adverse weather conditions cause water to enter the air inlet easier than at present.

Right, I've looked up my parts list and there are bits listed for the AWY 1.4 16V engine:- 1) 6Y0 129 618 suction hose + 2) 6Y0 129 621A intake air duct + 3) N105 667 01 fixing bearing clip. So what you need is the hose, the clip to secure it to the aircleaner snout and the front panel mounted aperture to connect the other end of the hose to.
