I need a 101% correct answer
I wanna pull of the rubber strips down side. I got hairdryer onto them and they started to budge. it looks though like there is sommet under them. is it just foam or sommet? Thing is I don't want to pull things off and find loads of crap there that aint gonna come off. Cheers all.

the foam stuff is like double sided tape. when you take the strips off you'll most likely have a load of it stuck to the side of the car. it's not very easy to get it off & will take a fair bit of rubbing.
but, its also worth remembering that on an older car like a mk3 theres a very good chance the paint behind the stips will be a different shade to the rest of the paint. this will vary according to what colour the car is (red tends to be worst for it) & how its been kept all its life (i.e. garaged a lot of the time & the paint will have faded less). you might be able to sort out the difference in colour slightly with a fair amount of work with some T-Cut but its not likely you'll ever get rid of it without a re-spray of the affected areas.

Also please note that there is a risk that you'll take the paint off with it.
On my first Polo I took the strips off and it was fine. On my second Polo the paint came off. This may be because the 2nd one seemed to be a bit of a deathtrap and could've had a respray at some point.
I was given a wicked "tool" by Matt and Jon Leggett last week to take the glue off my car. It's a disc that you attach to a drill bit. You take the edge of the disc to the remaining trim tape or glue and it destroys it without wrecking your paintwork. I'm desperately trying to find a source for one.
