Black VW grille badge for my 9N?

Can you buy these of the shelf or do people spray them black or coat them in something that wont chip off easily??

I dont think you can buy them off the shelf for the 9n. It's quite easy to do though.

Remove the badge from the grille (easy to do one grille is off).

Sand the badge to remove the chrome look (will look like brushed ali)

Few coats of plastic primer.

Few coats of black gloss paint.

Few coats of lacquer.

I remember seeing your black one on your 9N, did it chip at all painting it this way?

Nope, although the one on my Golf has but i just touched it up by spraying paint into the paint lid and used a toothpick to blob the paint in it. looks fine and not noticeable. But I was just unlucky at getting a stone chip on it!
